A1 Srbija - One of Serbia's three national networks. It was called Vip mobile until April 2021, and older guides still use that name

Serbia switched on nationwide 5G only in December 2025 - all three networks lit it together, with Belgrade and Novi Sad covered first. The rollout continues through 2026.

Where reception gets weak

Belgrade, Novi Sad and the motorways - strong, stable coverage
On rural roads fast 4G is less available and speeds fall - still enough for navigation and messaging
Border areas near Kosovo have patchy reception

Free Wi-Fi - the honest picture

Belgrade is generous with free Wi-Fi - Knez Mihailova street, the parks, Ada Ciganlija and most cafes. Novi Sad is well covered too.

Yes. Your own number stays in the phone and isn't lost. The eSIM provides data only, and browsing runs through it - no roaming charges. For calls and messages you can use WhatsApp and similar apps over the eSIM's data. During the trip you can switch the Israeli line off entirely - the number is not lost, and you switch it back on when you land in Israel.

Yes, installing needs Wi-Fi - which is why you install at home before the flight. Activating on landing needs nothing beyond switching the line on in Settings.

Serbia is outside the EU, and some Israeli roaming packages exclude it or price it steeply - check the fine print. A dedicated fixed-price plan avoids the bill surprise.
