About this data and how it is calculated · war period excluded

Coverage note

During Operation “Roaring Lion” (11 Feb – 15 May 2026) Ben Gurion was closed or operating at reduced capacity, and some days were not captured in our records. This period is excluded from the rankings so it cannot skew the results.

How we count

Codeshare Deduplication

Statistics show unique physical flights only. Codeshare flights (same aircraft sold under multiple flight numbers) are counted once to ensure accurate data.

What is a codeshare flight?

A codeshare is when multiple airlines sell tickets for the same physical flight. For example:

DL234 (Delta operates) ← LY4000 (El Al sells) ← VS3954 (Virgin sells) All three flight numbers = one physical plane to New York

Why deduplicate?

  • Without deduplication, one delayed flight would appear as 3 delays
  • Statistics would be inflated
  • Airline rankings would be skewed

Our method

  • We identify the operating carrier (the airline actually flying the plane)
  • Performance is attributed only to the operator
How we count

Departures: 15 minutes of taxi are not counted as delay

An airline's schedule is the time the aircraft leaves the gate, but the time published for a departure is the moment it takes off. Between the two the aircraft drives to the runway. We deduct 15 minutes from every departure before counting a delay, so that drive is not blamed on the airline. Arrivals are not adjusted.

Why the correction is needed

Without it, a flight that pushed back from the gate exactly on time is recorded as a quarter of an hour late. Over 60 days that put departures at 13.7% on time against 50.0% for arrivals, and half of the flights counted as delayed had in fact landed at their destination within 15 minutes of schedule.

Where 15 comes from

It is the fastest take-off a flight ever achieves, measured over 60 days: 11 minutes for the median flight number, and 11 to 16 minutes in every hour of the day. It covers the drive to the runway and deliberately not the queue for it.

* This is an estimate. The Israel Airports Authority does not publish a gate-departure time, so the real figure can be bounded but not measured. 15 minutes is a floor measured across the whole day, so wherever the drive to the runway actually takes longer our figures still show more delay than there was. Between 16:00 and 18:00 even the fastest tenth of departures take off 20 to 22 minutes after the gate clock, against 11 to 16 in every other hour; what we cannot tell is whether that is a longer drive or those flights leaving their gate late.

A flight moved later the same day is one flight, late from its original time

When an airline cancels a slot and flies the same number later that day, it is counted once, and its delay is measured from the time that was cancelled, which is the time the passengers held. A flight moved earlier keeps its own delay: the feed does not say which of the two times was booked.

Data notice: Statistics are aggregated calculations based on flight data from the Israel Airports Authority and additional public sources. Rankings include only airlines with at least 30 flights in the selected period. Figures are presented for general public information; flight data changes frequently and minor discrepancies may occur. Not a professional opinion or claim about any individual service. See Terms of Service Section 5 · Spotted an inaccuracy? Let us know and we'll review it.

Airlines On-Time Performance

15 of the 49 airlines that flew in this period are ranked — a carrier needs at least 30 flights to appear, so a handful of movements can't top the table.

Track real-time flight performance at Ben Gurion Airport. Our dashboard analyzes 2,804 flights to show you which airlines are most punctual, delay patterns, and cancellation rates.

About Ben Gurion Airport Flight Statistics

This page provides comprehensive statistics on flights at Ben Gurion International Airport (TLV), Israel's main airport. The data includes on-time performance, cancellation rates, and airline rankings based on real flight data.

How is "on-time" defined?

According to international aviation standards (DOT, IATA), a flight is considered "on time" if it departs or arrives within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. Flights delayed by 16 minutes or more are classified as delayed in our statistics.

For departures there is one adjustment. The airline's schedule is the time the aircraft leaves the gate, while the time published for a departure is the moment it takes off, and between the two it drives to the runway. We deduct 15 minutes from every departure before counting a delay, so that drive is not blamed on the airline. The figure is an estimate: no gate-departure time is published, and 15 minutes is the fastest take-off flights actually achieve. Arrivals are not adjusted, because the time we hold for them is the touchdown, already before the taxi to the gate.

Which airlines are most punctual at TLV?

Our data shows significant variation between airlines operating at Ben Gurion Airport. Check the ranking table above to see how your airline compares. Airlines are ranked only if they have at least 30 flights in the selected period, ensuring statistical reliability.

What causes flight delays at Ben Gurion?

Common causes of delays at TLV include: weather conditions, air traffic congestion (especially during peak travel seasons), technical issues, crew availability, and late arriving aircraft. Security procedures at Ben Gurion, while thorough, rarely cause departure delays as they are factored into scheduling.

How often is this data updated?

Our flight statistics are updated in real-time as new flight data becomes available. Historical data is preserved to enable trend analysis and period comparisons.
